Recently, staff member Jurge Cruz and I, the retro enthusiasts of Irrational Passions, were set up with a unique opportunity. We got the chance chance to speak with Bryan Bernal, Co-founder and CEO of Playmaji, creators of of the upcoming modular Polymega retro system.
There were some big take-aways from our discussion with Bryan that you can listen to! Of particular note was the information we learned about the massive undertaking that Playmaji have put on themselves by compiling a complete database of box art and assets for each game of their offered platforms. We also got a better picture of their collaboration with the Video Game History Foundation, game saves, their plans on the process to upgrade the Polymega’s processor down the line, reproduction carts compatibility*, and more!
*I did confirm post interview though, that the popular Ever Drive carts that allow owners to play roms of games off an SD card that’s housed in a reproduction cart, will not be usable on the Polymega. I thought of that question a few days after. Oops.
The base unit Polymega with wireless controller is priced at $299.99 with each individual module priced at $59.99. For more information, you can visit the Polymega site.
