I played a lot of a very select few games. Thinking back I don’t think I played anything on Xbox One or PS4 I would put on a Game of the Year list. I missed out on PS4’s biggest releases for lack of time, and the Xbox One only had one really high-profile game with Cuphead, and I didn’t actually like Cuphead very much.
So my list is bound to annoy. I played a lot of games this year but these were my favorites. Breath of the Wild is not only one of my 2017 faves, but it’s one of my all-time favorites.
Here it is, my top 5 games of 2017
Secret of Mana on the Super NES Classic Edition
IT COUNTS. Still beautiful. Still fun. In fact most of the games are still phenomenal. So just a general “Super NES games” for my 2017 game of the year list.
Minecraft Switch Edition![](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==)
Shut up. It’s the best way to play Minecraft, hands down, and it came out in 2017.
Super Mario Odyssey
What pure delight. Such a loving tribute to Nintendo’s rich history with the Mario franchise, baked right into a fantastic game.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
Best PC experience I’ve had ever, maybe? Quickly becoming my most-played game on Steam.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
>No question. When I step into the world I don’t want to leave.
