So if you have not yet heard, Final Fantasy XIII-2 was announced for PS3 and Xbox360 today. Apparently, it will be coming out in 2011, but whether that is for Japan only, or in the U.S. as well, we do not know yet. The bigger question would probably be: is this game welcome? See my thoughts after the break.
So all we really know about the game is what was provided in a single screenshot and a very short trailer. The screenshot, which is as follows, doesn’t say a lot:
Not much you can get from that other than that Lightening is back, and kind of looks like “some kind of badass white-knight or some shit”. To put it in Laymen’s terms that is.

As far as story, if my memory serves correctly, all magic was wiped out at the end of FF13, and the characters, all happy-go-lucky, planned on creating a natural and peaceful world where Cocoon and Pulse lived in harmony. Oh and Vanille and Fang kind of kicked it. Not that I give two shits about Vanille, but Fang was an effing badass.
That said, how in the hell are you going to have a FF game without magic? To my knowledge, no fal’Cie means no l’Cie, and no l’Cie means no magic. No magic, means I probably won’t be having much fun. If I can’t mess up some dragons with a firaga, I would not be playing video games today.

The the old story aside, it looks as though you’ll either be fighting against, or alongside this mysterious black-haired woman/man[?] and also, Lightening has an angel wing or some shit.
Moving away from the fact the game exists and is apparently coming out this year, (yeah, not likely Americans, so don’t hold your breath) coming out next winter, that is winter 2012, but what about those other Final Fantasy projects out there? Did somebody at Square finally crack and yell “Ya know what? Fuck it! Versus 13 can go crawl in a ditch and die!” Don’t worry fanboys, I’m sure they wont abandon you like that (so when is Kingdom Hearts 3 coming out again?)
If Versus 13 does not come out this year, at least in Japan, I am marking it down as the Japanese Duke Nukem. Then again, it looks like Duke Nukem will be coming out before both of them at this rate.
Either way, I’m not sure whether to be excited for XIII-2 or not. Its not secret I really loved 13 and *most* of its characters, but I’m not sure where they could go with it. I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out.
